Gearbox Considering Using Procedural Generation In Other Games
Joystiq brings us a report from SXSW, a digital media conference, this morning on a panel that included a couple Borderlands devs. They discuss weapon creation in the game.
General Knoxx PS3 Codes Giveaway
Avault is giving away 3 PS3 codes for General Knoxx. To win, listen to their podcast and tell 'em when you liked best about it. At the time of us posting this, there was only one comment up. 1 comment, 3 codes to give away, you do the math.
Borderlands Shut Out At GDC Awards (And Why We Don't Care)
The 10th annual Game Developer Choice Awards were held last night in San Francisco and Borderlands came home empty-handed. We couldn't care less.
Firstly, Borderlands was nominated for "Best Visual Arts Award." The winner was Uncharted 2. There's no shame in losing to that looker.
New Borderlands Survey
Gearbox has posted another survey up about our favorite video game, this time asking you, the consumer, about the enemies of Borderlands.
Go answer questions, maybe you'll win free Gearbox stuff.
So go tell them how you feel about the Destroyer and Crawmerax and all that jazz.
The Critics Get It Right
There's not much argument among the true Borderlands fans which DLC is the best. When we polled you guys, it was General Knoxx by a landslide. Mr. Knoxx made Mad Moxxi and Dr. Ned look like Alf Landons (obscure political reference, anyone?)
We've got a pretty good sampling of reviews from the "pros" and they're thinking the same way too. On Metacritic, the 360 version of Knoxx tallies an 87. Dr. Ned earned an 81 and poor Mad Moxxi got a shameful 63.
New Feature (And I Get A New Name)
Over the past few months we've started covering other games on guide sites much like this one. From the beginning though, we felt that these sites had one big shortcoming.
If a Borderlands Guide reader wanted to comment on them, he or she would have to re-register. After spending all weekend getting my hands dirty with PHP and SQL and other short words lacking vowels, we have a solution.
Site Upgrades This Weekend
For the next few days (3/5/2010-3/7/2010), I'm going to be tweaking the underlying architecture to the site. I'm hoping to minimize downtime but you might hit a "Site Down For Maintenance Page" for a couple hours.
The site won't look very different immediately but the changes will allow the site to continue to thrive and expand. Stay tuned for more updates.
