When Borderlands was introduced on the September 2007 cover of Game Informer, the headline touted it as "Diablo Meets Mad Max." Even with the limited information we've received on the game, it’s clear that movie heavily inspired the setting of Borderlands.

Mad Max was a 1979 low-budget Australian film. Its success spawned two more films in the series and also launched the career of Mel Gibson. The movies are set in a world where law and order has died and gangs of bandits terrorize the land with a motley assortment of customized vehicles and weapons.

Sounds like Borderlands, right? See for yourself.

See more after the jump.

Mad Max, The Game

You can really see the similarities in these pictures. Very cool.

Great stuff. I agree with

Great stuff.

I agree with Myconid- I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Master-Blaster appears in the game.

Can't we just get BEYOND Thunderdome?

Heh, Sorry, I had to say it, since that is one of the Achievements in the game, and it's a great line from MST3k.

actually yes

Actually, yes. Master-Blaster does make an appearance. If you check out the jeep/dune buggy car thing, one of the colors you can pick for it is red. Each color has a unique name. For example, "red" is called Blaster-Master.

Another example is Thunderdome. I haven't gotten too far into the game, but I think there is a thing called the Thunderdome, like an arena thing. I do know there is an achievement saying: Can't we get BEYOND Thunderdome?"
