How Big is the World Supposed to Be?
I mean, I know about the random generating enviornments, but in general, how big is this place?
Enough said...
But that's amazing!!! I for one love huge worlds.
Oh, Rocket, you got a source, or no?
Alright. Thanks a lot.
After reading some of the more recent reviews that talk about the game having zero borders and being able to get everywhere without meeting infinately high mountains or invisible walls, I would be wiling to go out on a limb and say that BL's game map could be built on a sphere.
This would work if the game world is big enough as you would have enough space to max out the maximum distance of eye sight. Also it would be in keeping with the fact you are on a planet, it would just need to be of an adequate size to look right but be small enough to complete 1 revolution in around an hour.
What do you think? If this isn't how it is built I reckon it could be a way forard because the world would just loop round. Starting from point A and travelling in a straight line would eventually bring you back to point A.
I always pictured that to be the ultimate game. The map is teh entire planet. No limits. No boundries except physical possibility. It looks like my dream could be a reality.
Here's some math. If we can get around the world in an hour, that would mean, assuming say, a 100 mile/hour speed, that the circumfrance would be 100 miles in circumfrence (obviously). Then, we say that:
C=2x3.14xr => r=C/6.28 => r=100/6.28 => r=16 miles
SA=4x3.14xr^2 => SA=12.56x16^2 => SA=12.56x256 => SA=3215 miles^2
That's an explorable ares of 3215 square miles! That's an area twice the size of Rhode island! Now, admittidely, that's one bloody small planet, but that is a massive area. I pray you're right GM.
i think i just sploodged in my pants!!!!!!
I thought I remembered reading that there are about 8 main settlements or cities in Borderlands. Then there's a lot destinations in between them where you carry out missions. A lot of the stuff between those areas is procedurally generated so it can change each time you play. That's just stuff I'm pulling out of a hazy memory though and I can't find the original source.
I'm curious how it will stack up to Oblivion because I'm playing that game right now. The world is huuuugge. Not just area wise, there's a ton to explore. Lots of people to talk to, houses to enter.
