First Borderlands Review Via OXM

OXM is fail imo but 8.5 is pretty good for them so take it as you will.
UPDATE
On the topic of saving games, one of the Gearbox devs posted this response on the official Gearbox forums (thanks Mr. Nitro PB):

It saves anywhere, and it auto saves your character state at every checkpoint and when you quit. What it doesn't do is save every enemy/item in the world. It works just like Diablo, except we have more frequent waypoints. Quit, when you join again, you'll be at the nearest checkpoint and the enemies will be around, which is good because they are all worth XP and have cash and gear. And if you are second guessing a decision about skill points, you can fully respec your character at any save station in the world at any time.
Some people don't the action RPG style save system, and I guess this reviewer is one of those people. I believe it's the best possible way to handle this kind of game, and any other solution would have failed the promise of the game.
As for "not for everyone"?
Damn right, and proud of it.
UPDATE 2
Here's a summary of the review by somebody who has read the entire thing.
yeah just a pic...this is from the next OXM to come out which im pretty sure wont be out until borderlands is but im pretty sure we will only be seeing more and more reviews in the next few days.
While I respect the score, I'm more surprised that they mention there isn't a save anywhere feature. So, it would appear that you do have many many save slots, you have to get to a 'terminal' or such to actually save your game. That makes me a bit sad that they didn't include that feature.
Anyway, I think what we are going to run into a lot is people who simply don't 'get' the style of the game. You see the little blurb at the very bottom of the page asking why stuff is so loud, well, I like it loud! So, its really going to be who reviews it.
Well if you think about it with the New U feature(rezzing) you really only need to save when you are done playing for the day so i don't see it as a problem. If anything a save anywhere feature just takes some of the challenge out of a game and if you want to save and have the cash just blow yourself up and you should be near a save point.
I bet they didn't include a save-anywhere feature since when you die, you just respawn and lose money. It would've taken away from the challenge of losing. I'm sure there's still auto-save and certain save points to access.
I think 8.5 is a decent score. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of reviewers not giving this game what it deserves. Personally, i find OXM to be utter fucking garbage for most reviews. Didn't they give Dead Space like a 6.5? I never go by anything they write.
yes they did give dead spaced a 6.5. That was when i realised they fail...EPICLY.
I was thinking that the "no save anywhere" was kind of a downer, but what you said is a good safety net for any emergency situation in which you would need to save immediately.
The issue I have with reviews is that if a game goes to a reviewer who isn't a fan of the genre, aka Dead Space, it will hurt the review a lot. But, OXM isn't the first to have that issue nor will it be the last. The IGN review of UFC 2009 was a joke but I still go to the site and I still have a sub for OXM.
It may be a fail source, but 8.5 is good news.
I just need to see 2-3 reviews from non-fail sources with an 85% or equivalent score, and I'm sold.
(Actually, from the way things are going, Borderlands is going to get at least 8.5 anyway, and I'm probably going to get it even if it didn't.)

Nice! I was hopeing to read the entire review though.
